Talking Points For Reluctant Progressives

NOTE: Possible reluctant Progressive objections are in large italic print, the talking points answering those objections are in smaller print below them.

I don't like either candidate, and I don't want to vote for the lesser of two evils.

I understand how you feel, but one of those two candidates will win. If Trump wins, we'll never have another fair election, so you'll never get what you want. If Biden wins, there's a good chance that in a future election you'll get a candidate who thrills you.

In other words, either Biden or Trump will be the next president. No other choice. Sorry, but that's the facts. So choose wisely.

Biden's too old to govern.

Presidents surrounding themselves with capable people can offload most of the work to those people, so age isn't an issue. Contrast this to Trump, only 3-4 years younger, who surrounds himself with incompetent, delusional yes-men.

Wouldn't you prefer a president who is "too old" to one guaranteed to tell lies at every turn?

Biden hasn't curbed inflation.

He's curbing inflation. It's now down to 3.4%, down from 7.0% in 2021 and 6.5% in 2022 (evidence).

Although these three figures are higher than inflation in the Trump years, consider the fact that during Biden, paychecks skyrocketed. Life is always cheaper when workers aren't paid a living wage, so it was cheaper under Trump.

Biden's too weak on gun control.

Wait until you see future Trump appointed Supreme Court Justices do to gun control. With absolutely no qualifications on who can become a Supreme Court Justice, Justice Ted Nugent is not beyond belief.

And by the way, with the new Supreme Court ruling that a sitting or former president cannot be tried for anything within the normal activity of president, expect Trump to prosecute and imprison the remaining three Democrat appointed Supreme Court Justices so he can replace them with political hacks. Imagine new Justices Ted Nugent, Joel Osteen, and currently imprisoned but pardonable Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio. Think it can't happen? The Supreme Court made the president and future presidents above the law, and we all know Trump has no conscience to stop him.

I know it looks bad, but Trump said he's going to [fill in your choice of promise].

He promised Mexico was going to pay for the wall. He said he won the 2020 election. He said the Covid 19 pandemic was under control as Americans were sickening and dying by the ten thousands. He said the US border was the most dangerous place on earth. Not Gaza, not Israel, not Columbia or El Salvador, no, the US border. Donald Trump always lies, so you can't believe a word he says.

Biden's not doing right by those weighted down by student debt.

He's tried very hard, and at every turn, either Republican politicians or Republican appointed judges sabotaged his effort. Yet thanks to Biden, some oppressed by college debt are getting relief. And what do you think Trump would do for those with student debts?

Biden's not doing enough for the environment.

If this were true, and it's not, the environmental cause would still be lightyears better off with a second Biden presidency than a second Trump presidency. Trump pulled us out of the climate accords before, he'll do it again, he gutted environmental regulations before, and he's promised to gut them all for the price of oil and car company contributions. If you don't want billions of people dying of starvation, water wars and climate refugee wars, you'd better vote for Biden.

Biden's not doing enough for the Palestinians.

Biden's trying very hard for humanitarian aid and to end the war, but that's not even the issue. If you think the Palestinians are in trouble now, wait a couple decades until climate change hits the poor the hardest. 30,000 Palestinian deaths will seem like nothing compared to the megadeath they'll suffer when Trump eliminates all environmental regulations if he wins. Remember, it will be one or the other. Biden is by far less harmful to the Palestinians.

And don't forget that Trump told his wealth donors he will crush pro-Palestinian protests and deport demonstrators. (evidence)

Do you find it likely that Trump would restrain Israel? Me either.

Biden hates Israel.

Biden has supplied Israel with all weapons except those 4000 pound bombs. On October 7, 2023, Biden said he stood with Israel, called Hamas a terrorist organization, and promised to give Israel what they needed to defend themselves. (evidence)

If you're a Jewish American, please remember that Trump praised those chanting "Jews will not replace us" by saying "there were many fine people on both sides!" Trump loves his association with nazis, so it's quite predictable that if Trump wins, the various nazi factions will be his brownshirt enforcers.

And don't be fooled by Trump's having a Jewish son-in-law. He'll throw Jarad under the bus the second he doesn't need him anymore.

Biden let Iran off the hook.

No, Trump let Iran off the hook the second he pulled the US out of the Iran nuclear deal, thus giving Iran the chance to forbid inspections. Now don't get me wrong, the Iranian politicians and religious leaders are liars, psychopaths and killers, but with the US in the deal those inspections would have been completed. When the US pulled out, Iran was enhancing uranium to only a 4% fuels-grade purity. Now they're up to at least 60%, a purity at which nuclear weapons are only weeks away, whenever they want to go that route.

Biden hasn't done enough for Black people.

Consider what the Republican appointed Supreme Court justices did to the voting rights act. If you don't want even more of that, vote for Biden to stop Trump.

Trump is reaching out to Black voters.

Yes, he always stocks his audience with hand picked Black people (Candace Owens, for instance), but when he tells you he'll help you, his previous behavior says he's lying. Remember the Central Park 5?

We're wasting money on Ukraine that we should be spending on our poorest citizens.

If Ukraine falls, Putin will invade Poland just like hitler did after the allies let him have Czechoslovakia just before World War 2. We have the NATO mutual defense pact that includes Poland, so if he takes Ukraine, we have the following choices:

Both candidates are the same.

This blatantly untrue assertion is trotted out at every election for shock value. Nobody believes it because it's demonstrably false. Taxes for the rich, Ukraine, college loan forgiveness, the right to protest, the right to vote without impediments, the right to reproductive choice, the safety net; the list goes on and on.
